GSA Parent Volunteer Opportunities- 2022-2023

Many things have changed in GSA's 20 year, but one constant has been a dedicated and selfless culture of volunteering. GSA relies on parent (and grandparent) volunteers in many ways throughout the school year. We encourage every parent to find a way to get involved! This not only enhances the GSA experience for our students, but for you as a parent as well. Please feel free to select as many opportunities as you would like!

Ongoing Opportunities

GSA Uniform Closet Organizer
We ask that the Uniform Closet Organizer come twice during their assigned month (dates/times are at your convenience!) to help sort, fold, and organize the used clothing items in our uniform closet. This task takes about 1-1.5 hours every two weeks.

Teacher Appreciation
There are three main opportunities that our Teacher Appreciation Committee has planned for our 22-23 school year. There will be opportunities in both the Fall and Spring for a special show of thanks. There is also an ongoing opportunity to supply snacks for the GSA Teacher Treat Tower each month.

Activities and Events

Fall Celebration September 24, 2022
Our Community comes back together in September to kick off another year of learning. Families are invited to relax and socialize while students can enjoy swimming, volleyball, and outdoor games. Food is included in the ticket price. The strength of GSA is in our community, and this event is intended to strengthen those parents connections within a class as well as across grades. We will begin planning for this event in June 2022.

Grandparents Day- October 21, 2022
Grandparents or “grand-friends” (an older friend or relative) are invited to spend some time on campus where they will see a class performance featuring their granddaughter(s), participate in activities, visit classrooms, and enjoy refreshments. Planning will begin in late July 2022 for this event. The committee helps plan the event, and there are also opportunities to provide refreshments, set up, and volunteer during the event itself.

Theme Parade- October 31, 2022
Each year a new theme is selected, and students create costumes based on that theme and participate in a theme parade followed by visiting activity stations with their sister groups. Volunteering involves planning and executing décor and activities with the help of GSA staff.

Book Fair- February 6-10, 2023
This event is a partnership between GSA and local book store, BookPeople. 20% of all merchandise sales from the designated week in the fall will go towards GSA when you present the flyer at checkout. The highlight of the week is a family night for GSA families at BookPeople featuring readings and refreshments. This week includes other celebrations of books and reading on campus such as guest readers and a presentation from an author.

Spring Gala- April 2, 2023
A fun filled fundraising Gala featuring entertainment, auctions, and dinner. This is our largest fundraiser of the year, and planning will begin in September 2022. Volunteer opportunities include subcommittees such as auction, sponsorships, décor, volunteers, marketing, etc...

Self Portrait Show- May 6-7, 2023
The GSA and larger Austin community is invited to drop in and visit a display of self-portraits from all our K-8 students. A reception with refreshments is prepared for attendees. Volunteer opportunities include set up, providing refreshments, and working the event itself.
8th Grade Graduation- May 25, 2023
Our 8th Grade Graduation and Ringing Up Ceremony are the culmination of a beautiful time of learning and growth. Our 7th Grade families lead the way with setting up the Wish Flags- a GSA tradition that allows for reflection and anticipation for rising 8th Graders. We do need additional help with set up on the day before and the morning of the ceremony.
