Financial Aid

Through its Admissions and Financial Aid programs, the Girls’ School of Austin is committed to a diverse and mission-appropriate student body. Admission decisions are made by the Admissions Committee on the basis of an applicant’s talents and strengths, on her potential to thrive at The Girls’ School, and on her capacity to contribute to the School community, as well as on the family’s commitment to the mission and values of the school. Financial Aid decisions are made by the Financial Aid Committee on the basis of demonstrated need and availability of funds.

The primary obligation for financing a student’s education lies with the family. We expect that the family will be willing to make significant adjustments in the use of discretionary resources in order to meet educational costs. The purpose of the financial aid program is to fill the gap between the actual cost of a year’s tuition and what a family can reasonably be expected to pay toward that cost. The parental contribution calculated by the School might be different from the one calculated by the NAIS School and Student Service(SSS). GSA does not offer full scholarships—all families are expected to make a contribution toward the cost of their daughter’s education

As is common with most independent schools, The Girls’ School subscribes to SSS to help evaluate a family’s ability to pay. Families submit a Parents’ Financial Statement (PFS) either online or as a paper form, directly to SSS, which then sends results of the evaluation to the School. Paper copies of the form are available in the GSA office. Please allow adequate time for paper forms to be processed by SSS (two weeks suggested).

Financial Aid Deadlines

November 15 Families may begin to submit the Parents’ Financial Statement (PFS) online at http://sss.nais.org.
January 15 Families mail completed PFS to SSS (if choosing to use a paper form).
February 1 Families complete the PFS online (if choosing the online version).
February 1 Parents send a letter of intent to apply for financial aid to GSA. This letter should explain any additional financial circumstances that the committee should consider in reviewing your application. The GSA requires that each parent submit financial data.
February 15 Parents send a photocopy of their most current filed Federal tax return to GSA. Awards may be based upon the prior year’s tax return but will not be considered finalized until the most recent form is submitted (by April 15).
March 1 Financial Aid decisions are mailed to parents.
