GSA Students at the Climate Strike

By Lily S. and Cicily H. (8th grade)

On September 20th, GSA students had the option to miss school and attend the climate strike at the Texas State Capitol. Over 200 people attended the strike in Austin, and about 6 million people protested all over the world. The worldwide protest was inspired by Greta Thunberg, a rising climate change activist. In social studies, we’ve learned about how no one has been taking the appropriate action to change the way we’ve been treating our Earth. So, when we showed up at the capitol to protest, we were excited about how many people actually went. The chants and rallies were led by angry students with megaphones demanding action. Grace Meinzer, a Girls’ School alumna, was one of the organizers and leaders of the protest. It’s very relieving to know that we aren’t the only ones who are upset about climate change and want things to change for good.
Many students from 4-8th grade attended the strike and some GSA students even appeared on the news.
