4th grade student in math pentathlon t-shirts hold banner

Thirty Eight third through fifth grade students from the Girls’ School of Austin participated in the Mathematics Pentathlon National Academic Tournament this spring. The third grade tournament was held on April 8 and the entire third grade attended the event with their teacher, Ms. Prewitt-Hines and GSA’s math coordinator, Dana Burke. They earned two hall of fame awards, two gold medals, five silver medals, five bronze medals, two honorable mentions, and one math pentathlete award. The fourth and fifth event was held on April 29th and students attended with fourth grade teacher, Rachel Lee, and Dana Burke. They were awarded two gold medals, five silver medals, two bronze, two honorable mentions, and ten math pentathlete awards. Several of the fourth grade students who are also in the after school podcasting class did some onsite interviews with participants, parents and monitors.
