The Girls School of Austin held their annual book fair at BookPeople November 27 – December 2nd, 2017.
To celebrate the book fair the school had several guest readers visit their campus. On November 27th BookPeople’s outreach coordinator, Topher Bradfield, visited GSA to share some of his favorite new books for early readers with grades K-2. Then on November 28th Christina Soontornvat, author of The Changelings series and the picture book, The Ramble Shamble Children was on campus for a reading, break-out sessions for middle grades, Q & As, and a book-signing. To wrap up the on-campus visits Canan Yetmen, author of The Roses Underneath talked with seventh and eighth grade about the challenges and fun of writing historical fiction – including how to craft a story in the gaps between actual events and how to have interesting characters navigate a half real, half imagined world.
The Girls’ School of Austin’s family night at BookPeople was held on Thursday, November 30th and GSA had a record number of attendees who came out to browse books, listen to faculty readers and enjoy some refreshments. GSA holds a contest for the grade with the highest number of attendees and this year the 3rd grade won a donut party for the class with 100% of the grade attending Family Night.
