The annual Math Pentathlon competition is held each April at the Wilhelmina Delco Center in east Austin. This year, some 600 third graders and  550 4th and 5th graders from seventy-five Austin area schools engaged in a day of math over the course of two consecutive Saturdays. In addition to basic math facts practice, the games focus on three categorical areas of mathematical understanding: special/geometrical reasoning, logical reasoning, and computational reasoning.

The Girls’ School had thirty-six girls compete this year. The girls spend the year learning the five games during their math class and some even participate in extra practice during the spring semester by joining the afterschool “boot camp”. Among the girls who participated, there was one Hall of Fame, three gold medalists, six silver medalists, a bronze medalist, and seven Honorable Mentions. Huge congratulations to all those who competed!
