Life After GSA

Our graduates leave GSA with a wealth of knowledge, a network of GSA sisters, and the passion and confidence to lead intellectually vibrant and fulfilling lives.

High School Placement

Middle school students and their parents are assisted in their search by our placement director. The Girls’ School graduates have a wealth of secondary school opportunities available to them. High school options will include an assessment of a student’s interests and access to programs (whether the student lives within the AISD boundary, for example).

Alumnae Spotlight

Alex Kelly - Class of 2006
What have you been up to since GSA?

After GSA, I went to Westlake High School and UT Austin.  In 2014, I graduated with a degree in Textiles & Apparel and moved to New York City. In New York, I’ve worked as a fashion freelancer at Vogue Magazine and as a production artist at Verrier Handcrafted. I’m also planning a move to LA in February.  In 5 years, I see myself still working in a creative job, in a place that I love, and surrounded by people and a landscape that inspire me.
– January 2016

Delaney Vail - Class of 2008
What have you been up to since GSA?

I went to LASA High School and then to Carleton College in Northfield, MN, graduating with a degree in Biology. I now work as a Program Instructor for Frost Valley YMCA in the Catskill Mountains of New York. My job includes leading hikes and educational team-building classes for school groups and families, as well as working with injured owls and running high ropes challenge course elements. This summer I will be working in the same place as a Trip Leader, running adventure trips for middle and high schoolers along the east coast.

Tillie Walden - Class of 2010
What have you been up to since GSA?

After going to GSA I went to the McCallum Fine Arts Academy with a focus in visual arts and orchestra. It was a great experience, and I couldn’t have chosen better. I have McCallum to thank for all my art chops. The teachers there were wonderful and supportive, even when I started drawing comics towards the end of high school. After McCallum, I went to the Center for Cartoon Studies, a two year MFA program in White River Junction, VT. I’m in the middle of my second year there. While at CCS, I connected with Avery Hill Publishing in the UK and drew my first graphic novel, The End of Summer. I just completed my next one, I Love This Part, coming out in November at the Thought Bubble Festival in London.

Taylor Boeckman - Class of 2011
What have you been up to since GSA?

I’m a Senior at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, majoring in Math and French. I went to high school at St. Michael’s. If I could give my middle school self advice I would say, have fun, don’t stress too much. Don’t worry about growing up too quickly, because I’m still growing up now. My super power is always getting places on time. It’s not the most exciting, but it is practical! In five years I see myselft working in DC as a researcher for a think tank doing research on cyber security.

Taylor was kind enough to answer these questions for us when she visited campus on Friday, February 22. She met with the 7th and 8th graders to talk about her experiences in high school and college. Taylor discussed why and how she chose her majors, what she enjoys about them and how she’s used them; answered questions from the students about the best and most challenging things about high school; and encouraged the girls to try new things. She also mentioned that while her 5 year plan calls for her to be in DC, she hopes that her 15 year plan will include making a home in Austin and sending a daughter to GSA.

Lily Snodgrass - Class of 2008
What have you been up to since GSA?

I’ve been doing art as often as I can, currently at Texas State University in San Marcos trying to get my degree in Studio Art with a focus in drawing. I’ve also gotten really into motorcycles and I’m now on my second bike, and old 1973 Honda. In five years I see myself in graduate school somewhere in Europe, studying product design, graphic design or illustration. Hopefully I’ll still have my motorcycle across the pond.
-February 2016

Keira Hand - Class of 2008
What have you been up to since GSA?

I went to UT Austin to get my BFA in Studio Art, and since then I have been working on developing my own photography business. I love capturing any and all emotion, and my absolute favorite genre is wedding photography.  In five years I see myself being fully sustained by photography and shooting weddings as my primary income, and I see myself published in high profile fashion magazines for my editorial work.
– January 2018

Brianna Hardeman - Class of 2010
What have you been up to since GSA?

I’ve graduated high school, been on a national-level collegiate relay team in track, co-founded a collegiate club to promote the deconstruction of hypermasculinity, and I’m currently a rising senior in college. In five years I hope to have my Masters degree in either social work or counselling, and be an LPC, helping people as best I can.
-May 2017

Ashley Vance - Class of 2008

What have you been up to since GSA?

After I graduated from GSA in 2008, I went on to complete a B.A. in history at St. Edward’s University and have just started a PhD program at the University of Illinois at Chicago to study Andean Archaeology. This past summer I worked on numerous sites throughout Peru analyzing colonial-era plant materials and helping with GPR analysis. GPR means Ground Penetrating Radar and it allows archaeologists to see structures and other materials hidden under the ground’s surface. In five years I see myself either in an academic or museum setting—hopefully I will be close to completing my graduate degree! Ideally, I’d like to be conducting my own research projects in the Andes and complete some artifact preservation work on the side.
September 2017

Ana Poole - Class of 2009
What have you been up to since GSA?

I went to high school at McCallum Fine Arts Academy, majoring in orchestra (cello!) and visual art. Then I applied to a bunch of colleges (mostly small, liberal arts schools) and went to Hendrix College, which is in Arkansas. I’m graduating at the end of this year with a degree in Sociology, and planning to take the MCAT this summer. I really want to go on to medical school and become either a therapist/psychiatrist OR a gynecologist! I love counseling people, but I also love babies and I think it’d be cool to deliver them for my job.
October 2016

Oksana Hart - Class of 2011

What have you been up to since GSA?

Since GSA, I went to two different high schools, Westlake and then a private Lutheran School in Round Rock called Concordia. I was involved in many school activities including dance team, art, and choir. I also was a math tutor and worked as an outdoor camp counselor for YMCA. I’ve been involved with my youth group at church for the last ten years and during my high school career I went on mission trips and youth gathering in New Orleans, Philadelphia, Detroit and my favorite Costa Rica. My seven years of taking Spanish definitely helped me out. I’m now beginning my second year of college at Missouri University of Science and Technology and working on my math degree here. I am also minoring in Russian and following the Pre-Dental track. Over the summer I shadowed Dr. Marc Dandois in his clinic in Carrollton, TX and got to watch a wisdom teeth extraction, cavity fillings, moldings for crowns and partials. I even got to wear gloves and help hold the suction tool. It was so exciting! I loved it.
