Re-Enrollment Opens on February 2

Re-enrollment for next school year begins on Monday, February 2. Re-enrollment contracts and tuition management will be completed through Blackbaud.

Important: This year, the re-enrollment contract requires signatures from both parents/guardians. Each parent will need to log-in to Blackbaud to sign. If you haven’t created your Blackbaud login yet, please do so as soon as possible. Here’s a refresher on creating your log-in if you haven’t done so.

Contracts are due by Friday, February 27 to secure your child’s spot. If you have questions or would like to discuss any changes in plans, please contact Neely Michaelis, Director of Admissions.

GSA and Texas Education Freedom Accounts

The Girls’ School of Austin supports families having meaningful educational choices, and we recognize the state’s interest in expanding affordability options. Participation in the Texas Education Freedom Accounts (TEFA) program (aka school vouchers), however, is optional, and GSA has chosen not to participate because doing so may not align with our mission, independence, and long-term sustainability. Consistent with guidance from the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS), we prioritize preserving independent governance, curricular autonomy, and mission-driven decision-making.

While state programs may evolve over time and carry additional oversight or administrative requirements, GSA believes we can best serve families through our own need-based tuition assistance program—ensuring access while protecting the educational philosophy, community values, and independence that define our school.

Read-a-Thon is Coming

We’re excited to kick off our schoolwide Read-A-Thon challenge—a fun, community-wide celebration of reading! From January 30–February 18, GSA students will be logging reading minutes and (hopefully) getting happily lost in their favorite books.

How it works:

  • Students will receive a reading log to track minutes
  • Each class will set a CLASS goal for total minutes read—those goals will be combined and shared at Community Meeting on Friday, January 30.
  • Logs are due Wednesday, February 18
  • Teachers are welcome to join in and track minutes, too!

Last year, GSA students logged an incredible 103,045 minutes—the highest total EVER for our Read-A-Thon! That’s a whole lot of pages turned, imaginations sparked, and literary adventures explored. We’ll announce our total schoolwide minutes read at Community Meeting on Friday, February 20.

Book Fair Authors and Books

Speaking of reading, we're thrilled to welcome two visiting authors to GSA during Book Fair Week, February 9–13! Lower School students will enjoy a visit from Eliza Kinkz, who will read her delightful book Mistaco!, while our Middle School girls will hear from author Rebecca Bendheim as she shares her stories and writing journey. Families can pre-order books from both authors to be picked up and purchased at BookPeople during Family Night on Tuesday, February 10th. To pre-order your book(s), please fill out this form.

Valentine's Day at GSA

Valentine’s Day is Saturday, February 14, and we’ll be celebrating on campus on Friday, February 13 with a few special traditions:

Dress: Students are invited to wear RED GSA polos and red accessories.

Sister Group Lunch: We’ll share a Sister Group lunch on Friday, February 13.

Valentines & Treats

  • Kinder: Please bring a Valentine for every student in the class.
  • Grades 1–4: If your child brings Valentines and/or treats, please bring enough for everyone in the class and their School Sisters.

Treats or small gifts are optional and do not need to be edible—homemade crafts are welcome!

Please keep items simple, with a suggested limit of no more than $5 per Sister or classmate.

Any food items must be individually wrapped.

Thank you for helping keep our Valentine’s celebration joyful, inclusive, and fun for all!

Beyond the Fence - Site Development Update

This week, McKinney York Architects shared a refined master site plan with GSA’s administrative team as we prepare for a final presentation to the Board of Trustees in early February.

In addition, the traffic study results have been submitted to the City of Austin for analysis. We anticipate a summary from the City within the next two weeks. Preliminary traffic counts indicate that traffic volume around the school is operating at a desirable level.

Help Us Build an Incredible Gala Auction

We’re starting to curate items for this year’s Spring Gala auction, and we’d love your help! If you have connections to experiences, services, vacation homes, tickets, gift certificates, or unique items, or if you’re willing to help secure or solicit donations, we’d be so grateful.

Both the silent auction and live auction are one of the highlights of the Gala and a fun and meaningful way to support GSA. If you’re interested in contributing ideas or helping behind the scenes, please reach out to Robyn Burchfiel. Thank you for helping make this year’s auction exceptional!
