Honor Your Loved Ones at Our Ofrenda
In preparation for Día De Los Muertos this year, we are once again asking our GSA students and families to help us prepare our Ofrenda. Ofrendas, or offerings, date back to Mexico 2,500 - 3,000 years ago, and they are intended to honor our loved ones who have passed away with a collection of vibrant, colorful items displayed atop an altar.
For our altar this year, members of our GSA community are invited to contribute a photo of a loved one who has passed away. This can be a family member, friend, or pet. If you would like to honor a loved one who has passed away, please bring in a photocopy of your picture (with no frame) or email your picture to arie@thegirlsschool.org by Friday, October 25. We encourage everyone to bring in a photocopy so you may preserve your family's original photographs.

Coffee and Conversation on October 18: "The Anxious Generation"
On October 18th after Community Meeting (8:30 - 9:30 PM) and again at 12:00 PM (12:00 - 1:00 PM), we will be holding a Coffee & Conversation for GSA parents and caregivers to discuss the ideas presented in Jonathan Haidt’s book, The Anxious Generation: How the Great Rewiring of Childhood Is Causing an Epidemic of Mental Illness. In his book, Haidt argues that “overprotection in the real world and underprotection in the virtual world are the major reasons why children born after 1995 became the anxious generation.” Whether you have read the book or not, join us to discuss the ideas for disrupting that anxiety in our students through putting boundaries around smartphone and social media access and increased free play.
Watch a short interview with Jonathan Haidt at the link below, or if you have time on your commute, listen to Haidt's episode of the psychology podcast Hidden Brain on Spotify. These are both great ways to learn more about Haidt's research before our discussion! |

| Postcards for Our Grandparents and Grand-friends
Today, our students decorated special postcards with their Sister Groups! These personalized notes were created to invite our students' Grandparents and Grand-friends to join us for Grandparents Day on November 8. We are asking that you help your student deliver these postcards to their recipients in-person OR address, stamp, and drop them off in the mail over the weekend. Thank you for helping us make this Grandparents Day a special occasion for everyone in our community!

Firebird Fund is Now LIVE!
On Monday, September 30 of this week, we launched our 2024 Firebird Fund!
The Firebird Fund is our annual campaign that helps fuel everything we do at the GSA, from enhancing classroom experiences to funding essential programs for our school. Your philanthropic support empowers our students to dream big, take risks, and lead with confidence. Please join us by making your gift today! Bold futures begin with brave girls, and we are so thankful to the members of our community for supporting our girls at the GSA.
We would also like to thank our amazing class liaisons for volunteering their time to help us reach our goals this year, which consist of having 100% participation from our school community and raising $185,000 in total. Be on the lookout for communications from these parents in your respective classes, and thank you again for your unwavering support for our girls!
