As is our GSA tradition, our Eighth Graders have selected the Friday theme for our Spirit Week! As a reminder, Spirit week will be March 4-8th, and the themes are as follows:

Monday = Monochromatic Monday

Tuesday = Tie-Dye (or Rainbow!) Tuesday

Wednesday = Hair Love Day

Thursday = Throwback Thursday

And finally...

Friday = Fan Friday! -- Dress like someone you admire or something you are a fan of!

Re-Enrollment Contracts- Due March 1st

This is your friendly reminder that all re-enrollment contracts and online registration are due by Friday, March 1st to reserve your daughter's spot for the Fall. That is next Friday, but please do not wait until the last minute!

Help Spread the Word- Write Us A Review!

The Girls' School of Austin saw a 35% increase in new applications this year, which is incredibly exciting! Our reputation within the city of Austin continues to grow as we share stories about our wonderful school. Our desire is that GSA is top of mind for any family interested in a vibrant girls' school community for their daughter. One of the best ways to share these stories these days is through online reviews. We have asked for your help with this in the past, and your honest reviews helped us to secure an A+ rating on the school review site Niche.com. We would love to continue adding to our online reputation by adding even more parent reviews.

GSA's "New" Lower School Science Teacher

In line with our ongoing commitment to providing a strong STEM education for our girls, we are delighted to announce that Ms. Jesse Bohnert, our current Second Grade teacher, will be stepping into the role of Lower School Science Teacher! This newly created position represents a significant step forward in enhancing our curriculum and providing our students with even more opportunities to explore and engage with our science curriculum.

With over fourteen years of teaching experience in independent schools, Ms. Bohnert is well-equipped to lead our K-4 students in innovative and hands-on science lessons. She is dedicated to guiding our students' discovery and building a solid foundation in STEM skills and knowledge. Please join us in congratulating and thanking Ms. Bohnert for stepping into this vital role!

GSA Soars Past Read-A-Thon Goal!

GSA students always love to read year-round, but for the past two weeks, GSA students have been tracking the minutes they read as part of our annual Read-A-Thon. Each class set a cumulative goal, which we combined to set an ambitious school goal of 70,002 minutes. Well, after totaling the reading minutes over the last two weeks, our students read a total of: 85,652 minutes! That is an average of almost 600 minutes (10 hours!) per student over two weeks. This averages to over 30 minutes per student PER DAY. Way to go GSA readers!

New Edition of the Firebird Flyer

We are proud to share the newest edition of GSA's student-created newspaper, the Firebird Flyer. Your student should have brought home a paper copy this week. This publication gives students a chance to investigate and write about stories they care about form their perspective. Thank you to Dr. J and this great team of journalists for such a great edition of this beloved newspaper! You can read it online here.  (password: welovelearning)

Community Event with GSA Service Learning Partner

Longtime GSA partner, Urban Roots, is hosting a free, family-friendly event on Saturday, March 2 from 10am-12pm. Join them down at the farm for Sprout Fest '24! They will have several stations around the farm for families to explore and learn.

What to Expect:

  • A youth-led tasting station where high school interns will show off their culinary skills
  • A scavenger hunt around the farm
  • A hands-on pickling station
  • Sustainable arts and crafts activities to take home!

There will also be opportunities for seeding, transplanting and weeding to prepare the farm for the spring season! You can RSVP for this free event here!

This year's Gala will once again feature a 5x7 Art Show with pieces made by each one of our students and inspired by this year's theme: VIBRANT VOICES!

Your daughters are working hard on their silhouette paintings on miniature 5x7 canvases. We will have them all on display and for sale at the Gala on April 7th.

We will not have pre-sales available this year, so these pieces will go on sale AT THE GALA. Make sure you get your ticket today so you can experience this incredible art in all its glory.

(Remaining pieces will also be available to purchase for one week after the event if you are unable to attend the Gala.)

Thank you to Ms. Melear and our fabulous student artists for putting together this show to help support the GSA! Our students love being part of this event, we appreciate their hard work on behalf of our school!
