Grandparents Day- WE NEED VOLUNTEERS!
From its founding, the Girls' School of Austin has been a school that relies on parent volunteers. Historically, Grandparents Day has been one of our most popular volunteer opportunities. This event is beloved by students and Grands alike, but we really need your help and support to make it happen. We have opportunities during the event, but we also need people to chip in with specific items that do not require hours during the school day.
Currently, we still have availability for the following opportunities: 15 open spots - Bring 1 Dozen Gluten-Free Treats 24 open spots - Bring 2 dozen cookies/desserts 15 open spots - Bring 2 gallons of lemonade 3 open spots - Assemble treat boxes 15 open spots - Event set up 10 open spots - Event help 15 open spots - Event clean up
Please sign up here to help make this special day a reality! |

Loved from Afar- Send Photos of your Grands
If your child's grandparent has passed away or lives too far away to attend, please send a framed photo of them to school. We will have a table honoring these loved ones. Make sure to put your child's name and grade on the back of the photo. We will get them back to you the following week. |

Canceling Family Movie Night
As much as we love our outdoor family movie nights, we have decided to cancel the event that was originally set for November 10th. We have been hosting several evening events this Fall, and we needed to remove something from our incredibly busy calendar. We will attempt to bring this event back sometime in the early Spring! |
Ordering School Photos We are so excited to share this year's school photos. Our photographer had a fun time working with the different grade levels and capturing the girls' personalities individually, and as a class. All photography and ordering is being handled through our photographer, Courtney Kenefick. However, she has shared with us some answers to her most frequently asked questions: -
When will I receive my prints?
- All Individual gallery orders ship directly to their home(7-12 days)
- If I purchased digital when should I get my download?
- This should happen within minutes of the purchase
- I forgot to order, is my gallery still available?
If you have any other questions, please email courtney@gypsyskyphotohouse.com |

| | Please Join us for Theme Parade: Oct. 27
We want to invite you to join us for GSA's Annual Theme Parade! We are hoping to line the parade route with parent guests. Every year, the students' costumes surprise and delight us. You will love seeing their confidence and creativity. The parade will begin around 8:10am, and we invite you all to be there!
Here are a few details you need to know for next Friday: - Your child should wear her costume to school on Friday morning, complete with hair and makeup all done.
-
Your child will have a chance to change before lunch if she wants. Please send Friday spirit wear for her to change into. Students may wear their costumes for the rest of the day as long as they are not a distraction in the afternoon
- If you are joining us for the parade, please park in the neighborhoods and walk up to campus between 7:50-8:10am
- Please be careful when parking in the neighborhoods. Make sure you do not move any trash cans or block any driveways. We want to make sure we are good neighbors (and that no one gets towed!)
-
We have a regular pick up schedule that afternoon
Please email Reagan Ward if you have any questions! |

GSA Selected for $10,000 Grant!
We are thrilled to announce that the Girls’ School of Austin has received a $10,000 grant from the Oliver S. and Jennie R. Donaldson Charitable Trust in support of our Community Scholars Fund!
The Community Scholars Fund was launched in the spring of 2016 and it provides need-based financial aid, student and family support, and staff education. The fund grew from a shared desire among GSA families, staff, and the board to promote a diverse and inclusive learning environment. This collaboration affirms the community’s commitment for greater diversity in its student body and the associated educational benefits that all students experience when they study and collaborate with a diverse cohort. Learn more about DEIB/SEL at GSA.
The Oliver S. and Jennie R. Donaldson Charitable Trust has partnered with the GSA on this initiative since its inception, and we are incredibly grateful for their continued support! |
A Story of Service Learning Does anyone recognize this barn from Season 6 of Netflix's Queer Eye?
Earlier this month, our Third and Seventh Graders made their initial visits to Safe in Austin, a rescue shelter that serves animals and children with special needs. The shelter, featured on Season 6 of the Netflix reality show, immediately drew the attention of GSA staff when brainstorming students’ community service opportunities for the school year. These two grades will be partnering with Safe in Austin all year long for their Service Learning project!
Read the full story here! |
Now that you know more about our partnership, Safe in Austin would like to invite all GSA families to their Fall event happening tomorrow. Pigs and Pancakes is a chance to tour the property and learn more about their mission. Meet the rescue dogs, hug on some turkeys, play with the chickens, snuggle with the rescue cats, hug a calf, feed the goats, love on the horses, give a pig a belly rub, and see the new goats, puppies, and bunny rescues!
When: Oct 21, 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM Where: 14601 Honeycomb Dr, Leander, TX 78641 Get your tickets here! |

FIREBIRD FUND UPDATE: Halfway! |
This story about Service Learning at the GSA is just the start. There are so many INCREDIBLE stories we could tell about the GSA. And tell them we will!
Be on the lookout for more stories in the coming months about the direct impact of your Firebird Fund gifts. Every time we drive out to Leander to do chores on this rescue farm, we are buying gas to fill the bus. We also used the bus this week for White Cane Day and a 4th Grade field trip to San Antonio. And every once in a while, that bus needs repairs. None of these transportation needs would be possible without our Firebird Fund. Your gifts get us out into the community! We have the opportunity to be "OF AUSTIN," because we can say "YES!" to these incredible partnerships.
The campaign has plateaued a bit in the last week, so let's give it another boost as we enter week four and show how important these opportunities are for our girls! |
