Theme Parade 2023 - Influential Women in History!

At GSA, our unique twist on Halloween is one of our longest-standing traditions. Our annual Theme Parade gives students the opportunity to express themselves by creating and wearing a costume based on that year’s theme. On the day of Theme Parade, everyone dresses up and gets to see each other’s interpretation of that year’s theme as they parade through the campus and dance in the MUB. This year, Theme Parade is in the morning of Friday, October 27; Halloween Day (October 31) will be a regular school day.

This year’s theme is "Influential Women in History!"

Students can dress up as someone they admire, someone who blazed a trail, or someone who used her voice to amplify an issue or idea. It can be someone they studied in school, read about in a book, or know personally, someone who is still living or someone who is no longer alive. We can’t wait to see what students come up with this year!

Shop Tomorrow at ACR!

This year, our 1st and 8th Graders are partnering with Austin Creative Reuse (ACR) for the year-long Service Learning project. They will be collecting and sorting donations while helping the organization dream up creative projects for the recycled supplies!

ACR is a 501(c)3 nonprofit with a mission to foster conservation and reuse through creativity, education and community-building. They collect donations of gently used creative materials from individuals and businesses and distribute them throughout the community, including through their Creative Reuse Center in East Austin.

To kick off this yearlong partnership, Austin Creative Reuse has named the Girls' School of Austin their "SCHOOL OF THE MONTH!"

Tomorrow, September 9th, all monetary donations received at ACR's registers will be donated to The Girls' School of Austin in the form of ACR gift cards. We will be using these gift cards to help us purchase supplies for projects throughout the year!

Picture Day Schedule

Our Fall picture days are just a couple weeks away! We ask that students wear their Monday dress uniforms on their assigned days. For sibling photos, parents may decide which uniform they prefer. We will be taking class photos as well as individuals shots on their assigned days. Our photographer will reach out directly to parents when their child's photo gallery is ready.

High School Fair- October 4

GSA will host our '23-'24 High School Fair October 4th from 6:00pm to 7:30pm. The event will take place in the MUB. The evening is meant to provide the GSA community with a smaller venue to explore different High School options. All Middle School students and their families are invited, but in particular, 7th and 8th Grade families. The Class of 2024 has already begun their journey! You can use these tips to help prepare your student to take the lead in these conversations with High School representatives.

Community Event: Austin Museum Day

Sunday, September 17th is the 26th annual Austin Museum Day! Enjoy dozens of Austin Area Museums for free in a celebration of art, culture, history, music, nature, science, and play! This year, 43 museums in the Austin area will be opening their doors for free!
